rock: guitar, vocals

[Drums on "Your Saving Day (demo)": Chuck F]

lump was a post-punk Massachusetts quartet who went their separate ways in 1993, reformed 14 years later and played their immediate, catchy, and aggressive two-guitar pop to rave reviews in Boston and Austin.

lump took shape in central Massachusetts - at Fitchburg State College - in 1991, led by guitarist/singer Mark, co-guitarist, Rock, Nick on bass and, Matt on drums. They made an EP, Shrinkamatizer, in 1992, recording with Al Petiti (of the Boston band O Positive) and mixing with producer John C. Wood (Gigolo Aunts, HBO’s Reverb series). One result of those sessions was lump’s first single, “thirteen” which charted in CMJ and got the band dubbed "newcomers of the month" in Boston music bible The Noise in early 1993. lump soon began sharing Boston-area club bills with such touring artists as Gumball, Five Eight, Antietam, Ben Deily, and a pre-Dookie Green Day. In March 1993, lump was invited to play WMBR's revered local live Boston Rock show Pipeline!, recording their set with renowned Fort Apache engineer Carl Plaster. Not long after that, though, our story turned sad, as lump disbanded. Nick and Matt moved to New York and played with Scott McEwen (Current Proprietor of Fry Pharmacy Studios in Nashville). Rock and Mark remained in New England and continued to play in numerous other pop and punk bands.

lump got back together in 2008 and played a few shows in and around Boston, as well as a few very well-received sets in Austin, TX during the week of that year's SXSW festival, sharing bills with band faves Fivehead, Toddle, and Earlimart, among others, before breaking up in a way that garnered them no additional publicity.
